Bilingual teaching is on our way!
You should have played frisbee, but have you ever played dodgebee? Do you know what dodgebee is? Here our bilingual physical education teacher, Chu, Yun-chen can tell you.
There were one professor and two associate professors for the partial domain bilingual project from National Taiwan Normal University as the panelists and some bilingual seed school’s principals and teachers for a site visit at our school on Nov. 2nd, 2022. First, our principal Chang, Chin-ming introduced our team. Second, the director of academic affairs office, Ms. Shan presented a self-evaluation report. Third, Ms. Chu gave a P.E. class observation (including of PPT introduction, class observation and comprehensive discussion).
The topic for this class observation was dodgebee, a newly emerged sport integrated with dodgeball. The place used to play dodgebee is not necessarily restricted, which is befitting to Keelung, a city always rainy in winter. Ms. Chu adopted the way of competition. She used a poster as visul aids to help the students understand the sport rules. From aligning the ranks, warm-up and activity, Ms. Chu partially used bilingual teaching to guide the students’ participation. Not only she motivated the students to communicate, but also created their dialogue through strategic usages. The most important thing that she always positively encouraged the students and appropriately gave them the opportunity to offer their self-introspection in class.
During the comprehensive discussion, the professors gave our school affirmative feebacks for the partial bilingual teaching development. Furthermore, they also inspired us to expand bilingual teaching into another subjects, by this way, both learning and activities at school can be proceeded simutaneously. Thus, our bilingual teaching would be prosperous and become mature in the near future.
“Our school has aggressively promoted bilingual teaching these few years. We appreciate the teachers’ support, and twenty teachers already joined bilingual teaching this year. How to run it? Our teachers usually start from classroom English, and gradually make the chance for students to communicate in English. In this way, they guide students to think, speak and interact in English.” said by our principal, Mr. Chang, Chin-ming.
Bilingual teaching would be imperative nationwide in Taiwan. We hope that our school can deliberately focus on students’ bilingual learning through the the following things. 1. Application for the partial domain bilingual project given by the Education Ministry and the bilingual pilot school project given by the Education Burea of Keelung. 2.The development of bilingual teachers’ community and the integration of curriculums as well. Our school always inspire the teachers to be dedicated to bilingual teaching and innovating in order to increase the students’ competition and broaden their international vision.
Children, is your competitive ability getting better? Bilingual learning can
make you achieve it. To be or not to be is not a question. It’s on your own, sure!
